The Network Support Center (NSC) is a dedicated team of computer professionals that can help reduce the cost of computing support by providing fast, expert response to computer problems and needs. NSC provides computing support for desktop computers and workstations, manages Microsoft and Novell file and print servers, and provides local area network (LAN) administration services for University departments. These services are provided on a for-fee basis. NSC offers three basic rate programs: hourly, fixed-fee maintenance, and our One-Rate service contract.

In addition to basic computing support, NSC offers a centralized file server for departmental users. For a small monthly fee, users can store up to 100 MB of files on a file server that is secure, regularly backed-up and scanned for viruses.

NSC Rates

Hourly
The hourly rate for NSC services is $85.00/hour. NSC assigns a computer professional to your department who works with you to manage and support your computer systems.

Fixed-fee Maintenance
NSC will provide basic maintenance for covered computers for $500/year. This includes applying system patches, updating virus software, and regular virus and security scans and other routine tasks defined in the maintenance agreement. For work and services not covered by maintenance, the hourly rate is significantly reduced.

One-Rate Service Contract
For departments with large numbers of computers, NSC will negotiate a service contract based on either the number of computers to support or the number of hours the department would like a support person on-site. The term of the contract can be either six months or one year.

File Server Storage
The cost for up to 100 MB of storage will be $7.00/month. Additional storage can be purchased in increments of 50 MB for $5.00/month. NSC currently uses Novell Netware for file and print services.
