WANA - High Speed Network Access at the U
WANA is a very high speed network authentication system in use at the University of Utah. WANA provides campus network and Internet access via general access network ports in classrooms, lounge areas, computer labs, and student apartments that can be used by anyone with a laptop computer (or desktop in dorm rooms) and a University Network ID (uNID) and password pair.
WANA ports require an ethernet cable (Cat-5 cable) for use. In areas where WANA is active, the user simply opens a browser. The user is then challenged to give their uNID and password. The machine is then connected to the campus network and the Internet. Users are strongly encouraged to use caution while visiting sites on the Internet.
This free service is for laptop users in most areas other than student apartments, where a desktop or laptop computer can connect to the room WANA port.
Wired WANA ports in student dorms and apartments are a Campus Housing benefit.
WANA updates and information for users are posted regularly on the WANA login page. To use WANA, you must have activated your University Network ID (uNID).
For Faculty & Staff
WANA ports are
in a number of classroom
settings throughout campus. Faculty can utilize the
campus network and Internet in live class settings, using
WANA ports at the front of the room for teaching and having
students follow on their laptops. To
use WANA, you must have activated your University
Network ID (uNID).
For Departments & IT Managers
WANA can provide you with authentication
using the uNID in areas with open-use computing services. Contact
the Campus Help Desk at 1-4000 option 1 for
more information on getting WANA in your location.
