Cloud Web Hosting Services
University Information Technology hosts websites for University departments, colleges, programs, labs, committees, and some student organizations. URLs can be provided in the forms:
- http://web.utah.edu/yoursite/
- http://www.yoursite.utah.edu/ (in some cases)
Certain websites may be provided free of charge to academic users, student groups and clubs. To set up web services visit OrderIT or call the Campus Help Desk at (801) 581-4000 option 1 to submit a ticket for service to be routed to Campus Web Services.
Student Club Websites
We don't provide domain names for student clubs but we can provide a web address (URL) in the form http://web.utah.edu/yourclub/. Officers of the club or people they designate would have access to update the website (via FTP using their uNID). We generally check ASUU's list of student groups to determine the validity
To request a student club website, send email to campus-web-services@lists.utah.edu. We need the full name of the organization, contact information for an officer, and uNIDs for any person or persons who will be maintaining the site. Also include a short term or label for your club; this would be the unique part of the URL. This could be an abbreviation or acronym, a keyword, or part of the organization's name, as in these three examples:
- http://web.utah.edu/pisa for Pacific Islander Student Association
- http://web.utah.edu/swing for Swing Kids Dance Club
- http://web.utah.edu/graduate_school for The Graduate School
Once we have received all your information, and upon verification, we can usually get the website space set up within 3 business days. Instructions are sent when the web space is set up.

**For plans utilizing shared resources: If you run processes that negatively impact other sites on the same server, UIT reserves the right to request that you upgrade your hosting.

**** Additional Disk RAM for perfromance may be added at the standard cloud server rate.
NOTES:
- Additional resources (disk space, RAM) can be added at cost (based on Campus Cloud Server rates).
- Each department and student group can receive one free Standard site.
- Shared resource packages performance can be impacted by other sites on the same host.
- Dedicated package has isolated resources utilizing Campus Cloud Servers.
- All plans are fully managed at the OS level (system security patches, routine maintenance, Apache, PHP, etc…).
- Specific software used (WordPress, Joomla, etc…) is the responsibility of the customer for installation, security patches and configuration.
- Migration of site content is not included unless otherwise specified or due to UIT needs (move to new hardware, etc…)
- Specialized consulting is available at $85/hour.
Back-Ups and restores
- All UIT-hosted web site content is copied to a back-up weekly and retained for 60 days.
To request a restore, site webmasters should contact the Campus Help Desk at (801) 581-4000, option 1 to submit a ticket for service to be routed to Campus Web Services. The request should include the site name and content directory, the files needed, the date, and procedures for contacting the site webmaster.
UIT will contact the site webmaster to confirm details and discuss where and how the files will be restored.
Web Design
Departments can contact UIT's Media Solutions for help designing web sites or for other information and solutions. Media Solutions is a for-fee department.
