Center for High Performance Computing

The Center for High Performance Computing (CHPC) provides computing, data, and networking resources (hardware, software and expertise) to support research computing needs beyond the desktop.

In addition to deploying and operating high performance computational resources and providing advanced user support and training, CHPC serves as an expert team to broadly support the increasingly diverse research computing needs on campus. These needs include support for big data, big data movement, data analytics, security, virtual machines, Windows science application servers, protected environments for data mining and analysis of protected health information, and advanced networking.

CHPC provides a wide range of services and advocacy to encourage the development of local, statewide, and regional cyberinfrastructure in support of the research goals of the University and the region.

Budget and staff support the following set of activities:

  • Hardware, systems, and software for support for research users
  • Advanced network, data movement, and cyberinfrastructure development
  • IT test beds for networking, systems development, and emerging technologies
  • Virtualization and cloud technology support
  • Separate protected environment that is Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliant and appropriate for research on protected health information (PHI), export control, and restricted data.
  • Large scale statistics support
  • Consulting services for scientific computing and information technology
  • Wide range of training activities (videos, documentation, and in-person or Zoom accessible)
