102 Tower building updates

Safety preparedness

More than 70 university employees in 102 Tower responded to a recent survey requesting volunteers to help with building evacuation preparedness. UIT leaders wish to thank all who responded. The 102 Tower Building Council is now working on role assignments, as well as a plan for volunteer training. After volunteers are trained, evacuation practice exercises will take place in coordination with the U's Department of Public Safety (DPS), SLCPD, SLCFD, Boyer, building tenants, and the Federal Building.

The 102 Tower Building Council is simultaneously working with DPS to schedule several sessions of safety trainings on-site. Trainings will include Dealing with Disruptive People, Personal Safety, Active Shooter, and Intro to Rape Aggression Defense (RAD), which is a 12-hour course. Leaders of each U org have chosen which trainings will be required for their employees and which will be optional. For UIT employees in the building, required trainings will be Dealing with Disruptive People and Active Shooter. On-site CPR training sessions are also being considered.

Walking groups for the parking garage, nearby TRAX stops

Now that it’s darker outside earlier in the day, informal ad hoc walking groups are meeting at the lobby fireplace at 4:30, 4:45, 5:00, 5:15, and 5:30 p.m. Group destinations include the 102 Tower parking garage and nearby TRAX stops. No sign-up is necessary – please join a group at whatever time works best for you on any given day.

102 Tower building website

A new 102 Tower website is online, designed to provide general building information that is common to all U departments in 102 Tower. University organizations in the building are encouraged to consider including the site in their onboarding processes for new employees. In addition, current employees may find it to be a helpful reference. If you have corrections, suggestions for additional information, or other ideas for improving the website, please email uit@utah.edu and a team member will get back to you.
