University of Utah password requirements

• Passwords must be at least eight characters long but not more than 25 characters long.
  • While the U requires a minimum password length of eight characters, increasing your password by even a single character makes it 93 times harder for a criminal to crack. Microsoft recommends a minimum of 14 characters, but the longer the better!
• New passwords cannot match the first eight characters of the previous six passwords.
• Passwords must contain at least three of the following elements in the first eight characters:
  • A number
  • A symbol ($, &, @, %, _, *)
  • An UPPERCASE letter
  • A lowercase letter
• Passwords cannot contain slashes ("/" or "\").
• The Information Security Office (ISO) recommends that users change their spasswords periodically. Some users may be prompted to choose a new password more frequently based on their organizational role.
