U signs major agreement with Adobe
Creative Cloud products provided to students, faculty, staff
All students registered in a degree-granting program and all faculty and staff of The University of Utah will now have access to a vast array of Adobe software thanks to a recently-signed agreement.
Eligible students, faculty and staff will be entitled to download Adobe Creative Cloud products — including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and more — along with Acrobat Pro and FrameMaker, from the University’s Office of Software Licensing (OSL) site. The software is slated to become available for download on June 26, 2014.
The Adobe agreement coupled with the existing campus-wide Microsoft agreement, supported through a mix of campus software licensing and student computing fees, provides everyone at the University of Utah access to many of the most in-demand applications in the world.
“There are only a handful of universities in the U.S. that provide all students with such a comprehensive software package,” said Jasmin Davis, associate director of strategic vendor partnerships for University Information Technology. “This really gives students at the University of Utah a significant advantage over those at other institutions.”
Such access on an individual level would cost about $30 per month through Adobe.com.
“Offering the Creative Cloud software to our students, faculty and staff is a pretty amazing deal,” said Scott Troxel, Director of Interactive, Web and Social Media Strategy for University Marketing and Communications. “It will be great for recruiting.”
The agreement includes computer labs, libraries, virtualization, bring your own device and Citrix environments. Work at Home licenses will be available for $9.75 per download. Older software versions are available for devices that lack the power or specifications to run the latest iteration.
