OpenRoaming
OpenRoaming is a framework that provides simple, scalable, and secure Wi-Fi connections using Passpoint-enabled networks managed by OpenRoaming members like the University of Utah. Passpoint enables devices to automatically discover and connect to compatible Wi-Fi networks using enhanced IT security protocols.
Passpoint is natively supported on modern Android and iOS devices (2020–2025) when using T-Mobile, AT&T, Google Fi, or one of a few other small carriers. Verizon, however, does not currently support Passpoint on any device. OpenRoaming is built into recent Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy Android devices.

How to connect
The connection happens automatically on Passpoint-supported devices that have not saved university wireless networks (UConnect, ULink, UGuest, eduroam) in the past. On OpenRoaming-supported devices, users will receive an on-screen prompt the first time the device connects to the network.
Notes
Guest devices without built-in Passpoint/OpenRoaming support can still connect using the UGuest web portal. For more information, please visit this IT Knowledge Base article (login required).
