To help members of the university better understand and manage the sensitivity of documents in Google Workspace, UIT is preparing to roll out data classification labels. Data classification labels are metadata tags that users can apply to files in Google Drive (including Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDFs, and other supported file types).

The third annual Snowdance Student Film Festival culminated on March 27 with a public screening at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts. This year’s event showcased 11 student films — more than in previous years — reflecting a noticeable increase in scope and storytelling.

Reed juggles a few roles at the university: enterprise operations for K-12, higher ed, and other entities across the state; day-to-day IT operations for Eccles Broadcast Center; and president for the U's IT Professionals Forum Board of Directors.

As of April 1, the project team had worked with more than 20 U organizations to implement network access control in 12 areas. The team has also added a U of U Health project manager and outside contractor, and begun collaborating with the U’s Network Architecture Community of Practice.

The Teaching and Learning Portfolio met on April 7, and the Enterprise Web Advisory Council gathered on April 9.

University IT staff recognized for their excellent work!

To strengthen the protection of university information and make responsible data handling easier, UIT is preparing to roll out Microsoft 365 sensitivity labels. The new feature will help students, faculty, and staff classify and safeguard documents and emails with greater consistency and less effort.

University web editors, instructors, and others are working to address accessibility challenges ahead of major federal requirements that will reshape how digital content is created and maintained.
