Kammili, Allen named associate directors in CTO Unified Communications

UIT is pleased to announce the appointments of Vijay Kammili and Desirae Allen as associate directors in the Unified Communications (UC) team, a unit within Platform Services in the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) organization.

“Vijay and Desirae collectively bring decades of experience leading digital transformation across higher education and healthcare IT environments,” said James Rice, associate director for Unified Communications, who will supervise Kammili and Allen. “They’re proven technology leaders who genuinely care about the end-user experience. I have no doubt they’ll both excel at fostering collaboration and integrating AI and automation into the next generation of unified communications and contact center services at the University of Utah.”

Kammili has been named associate director for Voice Systems and Automation, formerly known as Voice Services and Business Administration. He most recently served as a senior IT product manager for CTO Platform Services and succeeds Syndi Haywood, who retired in April after serving the university for 41 years.

In his new role, Kammili will lead the strategy, operations, and ongoing development of the university’s enterprise voice and unified communications platforms, including Microsoft Teams Voice, voice over internet protocol (VoIP), session initiation protocol (SIP), and Avaya private branch exchange (PBX) services. He will also oversee telecommunications infrastructure and carrier relationships; advance automation initiatives across UC platforms like Microsoft 365, UBox, and Google Workspace; collaborate with university AI teams to identify and implement new capabilities; and provide leadership for service coordinators and field technicians supporting campus installations and services.

Kammili holds a bachelor’s degree in instrumentation control engineering from India’s Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. He also holds several technical certifications.

Desirae Allen, associate director, Contact Center as a Service

Desirae Allen

Allen has been named associate director for Contact Center as a Service (CCaaS), a new unit in Unified Communications. CCaaS is a cloud-based service model that enables customer support across voice, chat, SMS, and digital channels without requiring on-premises infrastructure.

Previously, Allen served as digital communications IT manager for U of U Health Care Navigation. In her new position, she will lead the strategy, implementation, and operation of contact center platforms across the University of Utah and U of U Health, including the transition from legacy systems to modern CCaaS solutions.

Allen is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business information technology management from Western Governors University.
