Start of semester recap: IT readiness efforts set the U up for success

A deluge of commuters and students living on campus were mostly detour-free when returning to the University of Utah for fall semester. Similarly, the uptick in people using IT infrastructure didn’t hit any traffic snarls as the first week of classes got underway on August 18.

UIT, 9 U orgs celebrate cybersecurity toolset implementation

Nine university organizations recently marked a major milestone — implementing a suite of IT security tools required by the University of Utah Cybersecurity Program. One celebratory event was held at Red Butte Garden & Arboretum’s Rose House and the other was hosted in Rice-Eccles Stadium’s Ken Garff University Club.

IT Governance

The Enterprise Web Advisory Council (EWAC) met on August 14 and the Teaching and Learning Portfolio (TLP) met on August 19. EWAC next meets on October 9 and TLP gets underway again on September 16. The Strategic Information Technology Committee (SITC) returns on September 9 and the Architecture and New Technology Committee (ANTC) reconvenes on September 22.

Enhanced Duo 2FA process for Microsoft services starts on August 5

Additional verification step during the Duo process.

Starting Tuesday, August 5, 2025, all University of Utah users must complete an additional verification step during the Duo 2FA process when signing into Microsoft services. The U’s Information Security Office (ISO) will roll out the change on an ongoing basis.
