Kim Tanner named CIS Associate Director of Platform Services
UIT is pleased to announce that Kim Tanner has joined Common Infrastructure Services (CIS) as Associate Director of Platform Services, formerly known as Systems Engineering.
"We are very excited to have Kim onboard and invite everyone to extend a warm welcome," said CIS Director Mike Ekstrom.
Kim replaces Jon Ross, Senior UNIX Systems Administrator in University Support Services (USS), who Ekstrom said, "worked tirelessly over the past seven months to cover his job and serve as interim Associate Director."
Kim brings more than 13 years experience in delivering quality IT solutions and services in the public and private sectors. She has provided leadership and direction for a broad range of infrastructure and data-related services.
As Infrastructure Manager for Salt Lake County, Kim led the server/storage/virtualization, database, mainframe, and operations teams. She spearheaded the County's effort in the design and implementation of the enterprise's hybrid environment for Office 365 Exchange Online. As Database Project Leader, she led and managed the areas responsible for administering the County's database, reporting, and integration environments, in addition to overseeing database design/development (OLTP and data marts), ETL development, and data architecture. As Client Services Project Leader, Kim was responsible for managing the service desk, workstation support, operations and telecommunications areas. She was recognized for effectively managing and leading the IT recovery efforts following a major flood at the Salt Lake County Government Center.
Kim holds a Master of Science in Information Systems degree from the U and two undergraduate degrees in Computer Science/Information Systems and Elementary Education. Her certifications include MCITP Enterprise Administrator, MCSE, ITIL, and PMP.
In her spare time, she enjoys developing Android applications and crocheting.
Kim will play an important role overseeing Platform Services for UIT and Common Infrastructure, including:
- Systems engineering
- Database Services
- Enterprise middleware
- Commodity server and web platforms
- Virtualization and Systems deployment automation
- Enterprise Storage and backup platforms and tiering strategies
