#NCSAM is almost over. What did we learn?

Each year, University Information Technology (UIT) participates in National Cyber Security Awareness Month - a collaborative effort to teach students, staff, and faculty how to keep their online lives safe and secure. The internet plays a big factor in our lives at work and at home, and no one is immune to cyber threats, which grow more pervasive by the day. It's everyone's responsibility to learn how to behave safely online, and every October, UIT will be ready to show you how.

In case you missed it, check out what we've covered this month and get ready to give those security skills a tune-up - you never know when you might need them!

WEEK 1: ONLINE SAFETY AND SECURITY BASICS

Spreading computer viruses, network intrusion, identity theft, and cyberbullying are all common examples of cyber crime, and they happen every day to regular people just like you. Do you know how to keep your information and devices safe from cyber crime? Read more to find out.

WEEK 2: PHISHING, RANSOMWARE, AND INCIDENT REPORTING

This week we covered ways to identify and avoid phishing and ransomware, two of the most common forms of cyber crime, as well as how to report an incident at the U if you suspect you've been targeted.

WEEK 3: CREATING A CULTURE OF CYBERSECURITY AT THE U

As a state employee and/or student, you are especially vulnerable to cyber crime. If a criminal obtains your uNID and password, he/she would immediately have access to many University systems, including your personal information. This week we talked about ways to keep your University information secure, which in turn creates a more secure environment and culture for everyone.

WEEK 4: WHAT'S YOUR APTITUDE?

Do you know how savvy you are when it comes to cyber security? Is your machine really "clean?" Can you tell the difference between legitimate and phishing websites? Learn how to test your knowledge this week, and brush up on those security skills.
