Colleagues gathered to say goodbye to Chief Information Security Officer Randy Arvay at a farewell reception on July 12, 2019 at 102 Tower. Dr. Arvay left the University of Utah to become CISO at Duke University Health System in Durham, North Carolina.

Chief Information Officer Steve Hess and others made remarks, and light refreshments were served.

"We've certainly all enjoyed working with you, and we wish you the best of luck," Hess said.

Added Corey Roach, "Thank you for leaving us in a better place than you found us." Roach, Enterprise Security associate director in the U's Information Security Office (ISO), has been named interim CISO.

Arvay came to the University of Utah from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in May 2017. Prior career highlights include chief of cybersecurity and quality assurance in the Joint Spectrum Center for the Defense Information Systems Agency, U.S. Army lieutenant colonel, and assistant professor at the United States Naval Academy and adjunct instructor with the University of Miami.

With his extensive experience and strong, collaborative leadership style, Arvay significantly enhanced the U's overall information security posture and successfully cultivated a more cybersecurity-conscious culture across the institution.

UIT Leadership extends their gratitude to Arvay for his service to the University of Utah and University of Utah Health, and wish him well in all his future endeavors.
