The Ohio native said he came to the U for the technology but “stayed for the people.” Patten brings decades of experience in IT and operations to his new role — aligning IT services for the Colleges and Schools of Liberal Arts and Sciences with UIT. 

UIT is about halfway through a major modernization effort to retire the university’s remaining Centrex phone systems and migrate thousands of copper-based lines to modern voice platforms, including Microsoft Teams for campus and Avaya for hospitals and clinics.

The Architecture and New Technology Committee, Strategic Information Technology Committee, and Teaching and Learning Portfolio met in January.
