Retirement reception for Corey Pedersen

More than 60 people joined Corey Pedersen on June 30 at the Pierre Lassonde House for a retirement reception celebrating his 36 years of dedicated service to the University.

Pizza from The Pie Pizzeria, refreshments and cake were served. Pedersen was presented with goodbye gifts, including a Harley Davidson clock and a “word cloud” poster based on feedback from colleagues – words like “trouble-shooter,” “tenacious,” “motorcycles” and “big teddy-bear.”

“The best way I can describe Corey is he cares,” said Jason Moeller, USS associate director for engineering. “He’ll do whatever it takes to get the job done – nights, weekend, digging into books. I’ve never known anyone who cares like Corey.”

“If this were a sports team, we’d retire your number, put your name in the rafters. You’re that kind of legend here.”

Pedersen’s most recent position was senior infrastructure architect in UIT. For nearly 21 years prior to that, he served as enterprise systems architect. Other positions at the University include assistant director of systems and operations, large systems technical services manager and senior systems programmer in the former UIT group Administrative Computing Services. He started his University career as a programmer in the Marriott Library, beginning in 1980.

Pedersen thanked everyone for the nice send-off.

“It’s been fun,” he said. “I’ve always enjoyed my job; It stems from the idea that I like figuring out how things work.”
