ITP Board welcomes newest member, Jeff Folsom
In May, the IT Professionals Board held an election to choose three nominees to join or re-join the board. Two members were reelected (Holly Christmas and Steve Harper), and a new member was chosen: Jeff Folsom.
Folsom is no stranger to the world of IT. He’s been with the University of Utah for 16 years – 12 of those at the Marriott Library, and the past four as an IT supervisor for the Eccles Health Sciences Library and Health Sciences Education Building. He was also recently appointed to the Learning Spaces Task Force, which is responsible for interviewing all applicants requesting student computing fees.
Thanks to his past experience and current role with the Eccles Health Sciences Library and Health Sciences Education Building, Folsom brings a valuable skill set to the board.
“Like so many smaller IT shops, we’ve had to develop technologies, processes, and relationships with in-house resources,” said Folsom.
“I’d like to reinvigorate the collaboration and sharing of expertise between IT groups on campus,” he continued. “I hope to bring back more departmental IT discussion, in the hopes that non-UIT IT professionals will be able to group time and resources to be shared amongst each other, in collaboration with the greater UIT presence.”
Folsom was excited to join as a member of the board, which he said has done a wonderful job thus far.
“It’s difficult to try to bring together so many different people with such diverse backgrounds and opinions,” he said. “I hope to continue facilitating that process.”
“For now, I look forward to learning how the board interacts with entities both on and off campus,” he added. “I’d like to develop some personal and professional relationships, and start figuring out how to make positive change.”
