Kudos & Congratulations

Congratulations to Steve B. Adams (Information Security Office) and Vijay Kammili (Network and Communications Infrastructure) for winning the December 2017 prize drawing!

UIT staff recognized for their excellent work

Thank you so much to Monte Shaw, Mary Smithing, Christian Rawlings and Mike McCloskey for their help with moving computers at Student Health during their renovation. And thank you to Amy Talbot for making sure phones and data lines were ready for these moves to happen.

~ Beth Sallay, Campus Computer Support

I’d like to give a big thank-you to Desirae Allen. Recently, she went above and beyond for one of our customers by effectively applying UIT’s products and services to successfully manage the customer’s increased call volume. Thanks for all you do, Desirae!

~ Syndi Haywood, Network & Communications Infrastructure

I would like to thank Emily Rushton, Jesse Drake, and Cassandra Van Buren in StratComm for all their hard work. Every time I need something from them, I know it will be delivered quickly. I love to see how good they are at taking my rough outlines and producing a polished, professional piece of writing. I learn a lot from their expertise, and always enjoy working with them.

~ Rachael Sheedy, UIT Project Management Office

Clay Postma (formerly of the UIT Project Management Office) recently took a position with the UIT Process Team. I want to thank Clay for all the great work and contributions he has made towards getting the PMO up and running over the last 1.5 years. Clay managed multiple successful projects (ServiceNow/UBen) and also served as the unofficial product manager for ServiceNow. He has been a delight to work with and is an exemplary employee. We are sad to lose him but are happy to know he is still with UIT and are excited to continue to work with him on ServiceNow and critical process projects.

~ Jill Brinton, UIT Project Management Office

The UIT Holiday Party was, as it has been for the past several years, a StratComm team effort, involving months of careful planning, budgeting, coordination, and attention to a multitude of details. Emily Rushton's stellar event management skills and follow-through were invaluable in planning and hosting this important UIT event. The steadfast, calm, and creative support Jesse Drake provided throughout all phases really helped to keep the project on-track. Thanks to you both.

I'd also like to thank Peter Monson, Alijana Kahriman, and Judy Yeates for helping us on the day of the party to ensure everything went as smoothly as possible.

Finally, to the colleagues who served as door-buster gift consultants: I appreciated your good humor every time I ambled over with a new item for you to test. Your feedback helped cull the dud gift ideas from the good ones!  Jody Sluder, Brent Ridgeway, Brad Zumbrunnen,Tyler Sauer, the IAM team, the NOC students, and Craig Bennion were particularly helpful. Thank you.

~ Cassandra Van Buren, UIT Strategic Communication

I'd like to recognize Mitch West for all of his help during the start of school this semester, he was instrumental in helping to resolve problems we had with UCards. This isn't unusual; Mitch is always willing to take the time to assist when there are issues that need to be dealt with and without complaining. He strives to always do his best - I so appreciate his hard work and dedication. Besides being dedicated employee, he's fun to work with.

I would like to thank Rob Lake, Mitch West, Brandon Gresham, Doug Kenner, Jason Moeller and Matt Leatham for jumping in to resolve a problem that was discovered prior to the start of school that could have impacted several students. They worked late into the evening on a recent Friday and again the following morning to finish the work so that students would not be impacted.

~ Jan Lovett, University Support Services

I'd like express my appreciation for Syndi Haywood as a colleague. I work with her in a variety of capacities, and it’s always a pleasure, but the role that’s prompting me to write this kudos is when she’s the IRT lead. She’s always calm, maintains a gentle sense of humor, is great at gathering the pertinent facts she needs to make decisions, and is fantastic at communicating with the SMEs and the Service Desk to triangulate information. All this put together helps get the right messaging out, and keeps the team aligned so we don’t make mistakes. I have looked forward to being paired with her for IRT on-call rotations for these reasons. Thank you, Syndi.

~ Cassandra Van Buren, UIT Strategic Communication

Emerson Ford was hired in May 2017 and has become a valuable resource to CHPC because of his technical abilities and great attitude. Emerson has re-worked existing as well as written new scripts for reporting inconsistencies in our backup processes and user account records. In addition, he is a member of a team of students working with our systems team on the evaluation of different options, in particular using emulab in conjunction with the Flux group, for creating and dynamically deploying multiple hpc server images on a pool of hardware. He is also starting a knowledge base for our staff in Service Now. Emerson is a constant source of new ideas and we are thrilled to have him on our staff. Thanks for all you do Emerson!
