Sounds of laughter and the occasional ringing cellphone echoed through the Commander’s House in Fort Douglas on November 21, 2019 as UIT colleagues bid a fond farewell to Camille Wintch, who retired at the end of November.

The University Support Services (USS) data analyst, and longtime UIT-ITS Golf Tournament organizer, had worked for UIT for more than 20 years.

“We might be looking at the greatest data analyst of all time coming out of USS right here,” USS Engineering Associate Director Jason Moeller said. “Look at all the upgrades you've done — more than anybody. All the data you’ve updated — more than anybody. All the rollbacks you've probably done — more than anybody. It’s pretty impressive.”

But the most impressive stat, he joked, is the number of complaints she had lodged in the past 20 years. Moeller figures she submitted 1.5 complaints or as he likes to call them, "process improvement requests," per day for a career total of nearly 8,000.

Besides some good-natured teasing, Wintch’s send-off included refreshments and hors d'oeuvres, a “I’m retired” sash and tiara, and a card and gifts — a U wine glass, pink tumbler that says “The Queen has retired,” U golf top, and $200 gift card.

Her USS colleagues also created a short tribute video, “Camille Wintch: A Living Legend.” In it, they shared what they’ll miss most about Wintch (and what they won’t) like the way she types, how often her cellphone rings, her hatred of Yoda, and her colorful commentary.

Moeller congratulated Wintch on 20 amazing years with UIT.

“It’s been an honor working with you,” Moeller said. “All the friendships here, you can see the love in the room.”

Wintch, perhaps for once, was speechless.
