Cindy Hanson, executive secretary in UIT's Teaching & Learning Technologies, was recently featured in a Deseret News article for serving 25 years as a volunteer at the Utah Arts Festival. The festival, in its 43rd year, took place on June 20-23 in Salt Lake City's Library Square. According to the festival's website, more than 1,200 volunteers and hundreds of hours are required to stage the state's largest festival.

Hanson said the experience has deepened her appreciation for what it takes to be an artist.

"I don't think when you start looking at it, you appreciate what goes into art. And then you see and you hear the stories of what it takes to make the pieces, and you realize why it's so expensive," she told the Deseret News.

Though humble about it, Hanson also is an accomplished artist — her collection includes greeting cards, ceramic tiles, magnets, jewelry, full-size prints, and even smartphone backgrounds. Read more about her art in this Node 4 article.
