Mike Ekstrom, director of Communications Infrastructure in the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) organization, has been selected to serve on the board of directors of the Westnet Education and Research Consortium (WERC). The nonprofit is composed of organizations from Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming.

"Westnet is a rare organization focused completely on open dialogue and solution-sharing between member organizations," said Ekstrom, who noted that the University of Utah was one of WERC's founding institutions in 1982. "I am honored to continue the tradition of open dialogue among all of the amazing higher education organizations that participate."

Ekstrom's two-year term begins on June 1, 2020 and runs to May 31, 2022. He said board members support the mission of the consortium via periodic meetings and networking opportunities.

Ekstrom is actively involved in WERC activities. In January 2020, he and several UIT colleagues spoke at the Westnet CIO Workshop and biannual Westnet Workshop at the University of Arizona.
