CHPC offers virtual tour of Downtown Data Center
After a two-year hiatus, a tour of the U’s Downtown Data Center (DDC) is available again — virtually, that is.
UIT’s Center for High Performance Computing (CHPC) recently published the student-produced recording on its YouTube page. The video uses images, 3-D models, and DDC and CHPC metrics to guide users through the data center, which houses CHPC systems and a significant portion of the U's storage and server capabilities.
The recording serves as an alternative to in-person tours, which have been on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The video, CHPC noted in its spring newsletter, allows the organization to showcase the data center, its history, and capabilities, as well as CHPC’s systems and services (without all the noise from the machines). CHPC said it hopes to provide guided visits again one day.
