Insects — along with ticks, centipedes, spiders, and all other creepy-crawlies we colloquially call “bugs” — represent as much as 80% of species on earth. Compared to roughly 8 billion humans, a single species, an estimated 10 quintillion (10,000,000,000,000,000,000) individual insects are alive today.

In other words, bugs are kind of a big deal.

Invertebrate experts, educators, and enthusiasts will celebrate the critically important world of bugs during BUGfest, held Saturday-Sunday, August 10-11, 2024, at the Natural History Museum of Utah.

The annual event will showcase collections, live insect interactions, informative lectures, and even a BUGbar, where chefs will serve tastes of various bugs. The all-ages event also features face painting, crafts, and interactive learning opportunities for budding bug lovers.

BUGfest is free with admission to the museum. Admission is always free for University of Utah students, faculty, and staff; museum members; and children ages 2 and younger. Tickets for everyone else may be purchased at https://nhmu.utah.edu/visit/get-tickets.
