A UIT student employee summit took place August 18 at the Downtown Data Center. The purpose of the summit was to talk about the state of UIT's student program, discuss challenges, and gather feedback.

Before students settled into their seats on the first day of classes, cross-functional IT teams performed a range of activities like deploying IT changes, adding and supporting new tools for academics and research, and migrating services to cloud-hosted platforms.

Acceptable Use Rule (4-004A) defines acceptable, unacceptable, and legitimate uses of the university’s technology.

To help emergency responders find members of the U community in their time of need, and to comply with federal enhanced 911 (E911) regulations, staff, faculty, and health care workers within or outside of the university must provide location information on their softphones.

It’s been more than a year since the kickoff of the One U PeopleSoft Finance Transformation Project. Project stakeholders take a moment to remind the U community about the “why,” celebrate recent milestones, and dispel some common misconceptions.

The Enterprise Web Advisory Council (EWAC) met on August 4 to discuss the University Webmasters Community of Practice, campus accessibility website, and university subpages. The Teaching and Learning Portfolio (TLP) met August 11. No other IT governance committees met in August.

Shuckra, a New York state native, hiked the Wind River Range in Wyoming as a teen, and was called to the west after college. His leadership style is constructive collaboration, which includes tapping motivations, building trust, and establishing a shared vision that empowers teams to make smart decisions. 

On August 8, 2022, UIT will deploy KnowBe4’s Phish Alert Button to all UMail accounts at the University of Utah and University of Utah Health. The button enables users to more easily report phishing messages and other suspicious emails.

Tom Cheatham, director for UIT’s Center for High Performance Computing, received the 2022 Gilda Loew Lectureship award at the International Society of Quantum Biology and Pharmacology (ISQBP) President’s meeting.
