Simpson named Director of Enterprise Student Systems

UIT’s leadership team is pleased to announce that Mark Simpson has been named Director of Enterprise Student Systems in University Support Services (USS).

“The essence of my role is ensuring we do the right things at the right time, that we leverage our software tools to make sure we’re getting the most value from them, and cultivating outstanding partnerships with our campus community,” he said.

Simpson will essentially play a product manager role with student systems, identifying opportunities to improve current student software products and develop new ones, and partnering with the University’s newly formed Integrated Student Team (IST).

The IST is the result of a campus leadership initiative, formed to guide the University in designing, developing and implementing a better, unified experience across the student lifecycle – from recruitment to admission, financial aid to orientation, registration, advising, retention, and degree completion. IST will make recommendations to senior University leadership. The group is co-chaired by Cory Stokes, Associate Dean and Director of UOnline, and Tim Ebner, University Registrar, with members drawn from organizations across the University.

Simpson has served in higher education for 22 years. He started his career at the U in 2013 as Director of Student Affairs Strategic Initiatives reporting to Mary G. Parker, Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management. Simpson now reports to Deputy CIO Ken Pink.

Simpson is passionate about “helping people meet their education dreams.”

“We really are all about teaching and learning here,” he said. “Our end goal is sharing knowledge, and I get to be a part of that. My job is to provide the structure to make that happen, and get rid of all the barriers that prevent people from having a good educational experience.”
