Strategic Information Technology Committee (SITC)

May 16 • Agenda

  • CIO Steve Hess introduced Dr. Randall (Randy) J. Arvay, the U's new chief information security officer (CISO).
  • Clayton Barlow, associate director for Enterprise Architecture, briefly reviewed the network vision statement written by the Network Architecture Community of Practice (CoP), along with the private IP space strategy and IPv4 private standards. SITC approved all three.
  • Mike Ekstrom, Network & Communications Infrastructure director, gave an information-only update on the overarching strategy for unified communications at the U.
  • Trevor Long, associate director for UIT Network & Core, presented on the newly-created campus wireless strategy.
  • Subhasish Mitra, associate director for Identity & Access Management (IAM) in the Information Security Office, provided an update on the IAM program. He talked about the two-factor authentication rollout (implemented on December 28, 2016), then covered the new identity software platform and accompanying manager access review process which is initially being rolled out as a pilot program.
  • Hess and CFO Lisa Kuhn discussed the Adobe Creative Cloud license agreement that has been recently renegotiated and signed.
  • Hess briefly talked about a department's request to hire an off-campus third-party group for desktop support, and said it might be wise to write a policy discussing why this is not something entertained on campus.
  • The final two agenda items were not covered due to time constraints.

Architecture and New Technology Committee (ANTC)

  • ANTC did not meet in May. The next ANTC meeting will be held on June 26, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Eccles Broadcast Center, Dumke Room.

Teaching and Learning Portfolio

  • The Portfolio met on May 31, 2017 and that summary will be included in the June 2017 governance roundup.
