#CyberAware month is almost over. What did we learn?

Each year, University Information Technology (UIT) participates in National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) — an effort to provide University of Utah students, faculty, and staff with the resources they need to stay safer and more secure online.

As members of the U community, we are especially vulnerable to cybercrime since our information is, by default, more public than that of those in the private sector. As such, it's our shared responsibility to protect our information — at work, school, and home.

Now's the perfect time to review this year's NCSAM topics and check up on your own cyber hygiene.

Week 1: The Basics of Information Security

As we become more active cybercitizens, we also need to protect our online presence. Follow these basic tips to stay safe online.

Week 2: U Policies on Network and Physical Security

Since the University of Utah maintains various shared networks, facilities, and devices, it’s extremely important that students, faculty, and staff follow policies in place to protect U data and infrastructure, as well as their own.

Week 3: Education and Jobs in Cybersecurity at the U

As cybercrime and cyberthreats increase, so too does the demand for an educated workforce to combat them. In fact, as of March 2018, 301,000 cybersecurity jobs — including 2,115 in Utah — remained open across the United States, according to CyberSeek.org.

Week 4: Cybersecurity Training for U Employees

The Information Security Office recently launched a new training program designed for main campus employees (excludes U of U Health staff). The course can be accessed in the Bridge learning management system.
