IT governance roundup

Architecture and New Technology Committee (ANTC)

February 25, 2019 • Agenda and Summary

  • Dan Archer, director for the University of Utah Campus Store, gave a general update on the progress of the Managed Print Service (MPS) subcommittee.

  • Corey Roach, manager for ISO enterprise security, discussed a change to the U’s recommended network authentication method. Currently, two methods are used at the U: PEAP and EAP-TLS. ISO strongly encourages the orgs that use PEAP to switch to EAP-TLS, thus gradually phasing out PEAP at the U. Orgs that need help with a mass EAP-TLS deployment should contact Roach at corey.roach@utah.edu. This was an information item.

  • Roach briefed the committee on an upcoming change to network access. This topic was previously discussed at the SITC meeting on January 15, 2019. Subsequent to the SITC meeting, Office of General Counsel and President Watkins informed ISO that the university is not obligated to provide anonymous network access to users. Accordingly, UIT is planning for removal of the ability to access the network anonymously.

  • Mike Ekstrom, director for UIT Network & Communications Infrastructure, gave an update on O365 and current UMail projects.

  • Ekstrom gave an update on the campus cellular strategy and state legislation.

  • ANTC will next meet on Monday, March 25, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. in the Dumke Room, Eccles Broadcast Center.

There were no other IT Governance meetings in February.
