September 8, 2022 was a scorcher — with a high temperature of 98 degrees in Salt Lake City and one point difference between first and second place teams in the 13th annual University Information Technology (UIT)-Information Technology Services (ITS) golf tournament.
The event was fun despite the heat, “which was a little stiff for September,” said organizer Mark Curtz, a product manager for UIT University Support Services (USS).
About 60 people turned out for nine holes of golf, a UIT-hosted burger bar, and prize giveaway at Forest Dale Golf Course.
Sharla Mindrum (ITS), who made the tournament’s first hole-in-one last year, won prizes for the women’s longest drive and closest-to-the-pin contest. Chris Lacey (ITS) won the men’s longest drive. UIT retiree Pat Burton won the men’s closest-to-the-pin competition.
Although teammate Monty Kaufusi (UIT) couldn’t make the tournament, Darrin Robertson and Jake O’Connor, who work for the U’s Financial Services office, won the team event with a score of 30 (6 under par). Four teams tied for second place with scores of 31 (5 under par). One second place team — comprising Steve Allen (retired), Jason Moeller (UIT), Joe Taylor (former UIT employee), and Jim Urry (UIT) — also won second place in a scorecard playoff, in which teams compared scores on the hardest holes.
UIT and ITS leadership would like to thank Curtz for coordinating the event.
