IT Professionals Forum welcomes 3 new board members

The IT Professionals Forum Board of Directors recently welcomed three new board members — Barry Bryson, Joel Hsia, and Matt Irsik — to its ranks. The trio had been nominated to serve by members of the IT Pros community.

In addition to Bryson, Hsia, and Irsik, the board includes President Steve Harper, Holly Christmas, and Dan Clawson. The nomination and election process is held each April, and board terms are two years.

“We needed three valiant members to step up and join the committee. … [Barry, Joel, and Matt have] all volunteered to help us out, and we appreciate it very much," Harper said during introductions at the May 1 IT Pros meeting. "We're excited to have you on the team.”

Bryson, Hsia, and Irsik take over the positions vacated by Heather Bennett, Doug Ressler, and Angel Warkentin.

Barry Bryson possesses 40+ years experience in IT. He is active nationally with CoSN, The Quilt, and Internet2; regionally with WestNet; and locally with UETN technical and leadership forums.

Before joining UETN in 2000, Bryson was the vice president of a startup and with Intermountain Healthcare for 15 years prior to that. He started his IT career at age 12, building computers for his father, developing software for his architectural firm, and helping him develop software for the National Fire Academy. Early in his career, Bryson held positions in computer assembly and engineering, systems engineering, software development, and database management before discovering a passion for network connectivity.

Bryson possesses a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Utah and holds current CETL, ITIL, and ECSC certifications.

As an IT Pros board member, he hopes to maintain and grow the community.

Hsia is not only passionate about technology but also enjoys time in the mountains, road cycling, and a good evening with board games.

Matt Irsik, Marriott Library

Matt Irsik has served at Marriott Library for more than 18 years in a variety of jobs that support student computing. As the head of User Support & Computing Services, he manages the staff and student computing operations for Marriott Library, which consists of more than 1,200 systems on campus. He currently serves on the Student Computing Task Force, Architecture and New Technology Committee, and Strategic Information Technology Committee, as well as other task forces focused on campus printing, IT training, and remote software access. Irsik has introduced numerous technology services, hardware checkout, service training, and more in an effort to provide the best technology resources possible for students.

Outside of work, Irsik usually trains for half-marathons, plays golf, reads history books, or works outside in the yard.
