IT security tip: Phish Tank, training available year-round

The Phish Tank provides information on how to spot suspicious emails and current examples of phishing emails received by university users.

Did you know that October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month (CAM)? Since 2004, the public and private sectors have worked together to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity and provide resources to help people stay safe and secure online. For many years now, the University of Utah has been a “Champion” organization.

During CAM, a variety of resources are available to all members of the university community. The Information Security Office (ISO) would like to highlight two resources you can access year-round.

  1. Cybersecurity awareness training (available as a Canvas course or on the ISO website) — This is a great introductory resource for everyone, regardless of their technical training.
  2. Phish Tank — This site provides students, staff, and faculty with current examples of phishing emails received by you and your colleagues!

We encourage you to spend some time with both resources to learn simple tips to protect the university, your colleagues, and the people we serve.
