About three dozen UIT employees recently laced up their bowling shoes for a friendly rematch between teams from the Deputy Chief Information Officer (DCIO) organization and Software Platform Services (SPS) in the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) organization.

They last met in June for a kickball match, during which the SPS team trounced the DCIO team, 21-5.

This time, DCIO employees fared better.

Brad Grow, senior web software engineer for the University Support Services (USS) Engineering Student Team, had the highest score of the day, with 166 points.

DCIO edged out SPS by five points, 95-90. The teams stand tied, 1-1.

At the end of the match — which took place September 1, 2022, in the A. Ray Olpin Union bowling alley following a pizza party — SPS Director Kim Tanner and USS Engineering Director Jason Moeller took the mic to thank DCIO Ken Pink and CTO Jim Livingston for sponsoring the event, Shenia Sellers for coordinating the venue and food, and Angelica Chacon for her assistance. They also congratulated employees.

“Thanks for coming out, thanks for helping us have a great start to the semester yet again,” Moeller said before announcing which team had won, noting that the winner was determined by averaging employee scores from the first game for each team.

The friendly competitions and employee morale events have become a source of team-building and networking for the two UIT teams and some other UIT employees — despite some good-natured teasing between the directors.
