Yesterday, University Information Technology (UIT) notified University of Utah Google Workspace users who have surpassed their allotted storage limits that UIT will begin to cap their U of U Google Workspace accounts starting Monday, October 16, 2023. Currently, the University of Utah’s agreement with Google provides 25 gigabytes (GB) of free storage for student accounts and 150GB of free storage for faculty and staff accounts.

Starting Monday, October 16, 2023, UIT will begin to cap University of Utah Google Workspace storage limits, which the company announced last year would no longer be unlimited. Currently, the University of Utah’s agreement with Google provides 25 gigabytes (GB) of free storage for student accounts and 150GB of free storage for faculty and staff accounts.
IT logs indicate that you have surpassed your allotted U of U Google Workspace storage limit. As soon as possible, please reduce your storage use to the appropriate level or pay for additional U of U Google Workspace storage ($180/terabyte per year). To review your storage use, please visit this Google webpage (uNID@gcloud.utah.edu login required). To purchase additional U of U Google Workspace storage, please complete this ServiceNow form (login required).
If you still exceed your allotted storage limit after October 16, you will be unable to add new files to your university Google Workspace account unless you purchase additional storage. Please note that Google Workspace is intended for the storage of university-related collaboration files, not large-scale research data, long-term storage, or system backups.
If you have research computing storage needs, please contact the Center for High Performance Computing (CHPC) at helpdesk@chpc.utah.edu or by opening a ticket in ServiceNow (login required). CHPC storage options and costs vary. For more information, please visit this webpage.
If you have questions or need assistance, please contact your respective IT help desk: UIT Campus Help Desk at 801-581-4000 or ITS Service Desk at 801-587-6000.
